Lost two pregnancies to hydrops, now pregnancy #3
Pregnancy 1 - Decided it was time to start a family, got pregnant in a few months, were veryy happy. Ultrasound at 7 weeks- normal, ultrasound at 13 weeks - cystic hygroma, subcutaneous odema, pleural effusion. Follow up of weekly scans, things got worse.. pregnancy terminated.. Blood work was done on me - everything was normal.
Pregnancy 2 - Got pregnant in a few months, and we were nervous right from the begining.Tis time had many tests right from begining( NT scans, First Trimester screening) Ultrasound at 7 weeks, 12 weeks, and 18 weeks were all normal. I has severe nausea in this pregnancy, throwing up 3-4 times a day. I had a low lying placenta at 18 weeks scan so was put on bed rest.. but doctors were not too worried. Went for 22 week scan when everything went bad. There was no heartbeat and the usual hydrops symptoms: ascitis, pleural effusion, oedema. I was induced immediately after. This time foetal autopsy was done - no chromosomal abnormalities, more blood work on me - reports all normal. The usual hydrops causing tests were also done.
I had many other problems due to this second pregnancy - my hormones took veryy long to get back to normal.
Now pregnant again, and scared more than happy. We are at week 14 now, ultrasound at 7 weeks and 12 weeks is normal. First trimester screening ok. Next ultrasound should be in a couple of weeks. I am trying to stay strong but am extremely nervous abt the outcome and feel like this in our last chance.. Has anyone had a successful pregnancies after 2 bad outcomes?

I just want to wish you the best of luck with this pregnancy and will be thinking & praying for you and your new baba that all goes well. Just mind yourself as best you can and maybe try some complimentary therapies like acupuncture or reiki to help you manage your stress levels & trust your body (& the universe!)after the awful shock and sorrow of your previous losses. Take good care xxx

I will be praying that this pregnancy is uneventful and that you have a happy healthy baby to take home at the end of it. I have not had a rainbow baby yet but I can only imagine how scary it is especially since you have lost two babies to hydrops. Please keep us updated on how your pregnancy progresses.

We had our ultrasound yesterday, and everything is good. So far!! We are now starting week 17. I know hydrops shows up after week 18 in most cases, however my history is at 13 weeks and second at 22 weeks.
Next sonography will be around week 20. In the meanwhile, we are planning for second trimester screening at week 18.
These tests have been done so far on me/DH
1. Thyroid both during and before/after pregnancies
2. Alpha thalesemia
3. Chromosomal karyotping of me and DH
4. Anti phospholipid antibody IgG and IgM
5. Anti cardiolipin Antibody (acL) IgM and IgG
5. Haemoglobin Chromtography, and indices and complete blood count
6. Endometrial biopsy
7. Foetal autopsy ( for 2nd pregnancy, chromosomal karyotyping not possible because of IUD and duration after that)
8. Placenta and chord examination.
If there are any tests recommended during pregnancy so that recurrence can be avoided, please let me know.
Trying to stay strong. XX

Firstly I think ur really strong to go through what u have.... I understand how u must feel....
You mention you had so many tests so far.... Any answers/ results to those? As far as I had been told this problem is so common yet Drs don't have a cure n seem baffled as to how to handle situations. In many cases so many tests r done but no answers! Did you not get n e answers having the post mortem done 2nd time round..... Do u think there is a link in what sex the baby was.... I have been told it is more common in male feotuses.

We did not get any answers from all the tests done. I do not know the sex of my babies. I am based in india, where docs are not legally allowed to share that information with us/or note that information during ultrasound

Update from us - Everything OK at 20 weeks ultrasound. Second trimester screening reports normal. Half way there, still half way to go.
I can feel my baby's movements now, especially after a meal. I have an anterior placenta, so I feel the movements only in the lower region.
Praying that the next 20 weeks are uneventful as well.

I pray all does go well.... I personally am so scared although not a day for a by without me questioning of what if....maybe this that and the other....yet again only one who has been there can understand. Personally I did not allow a post mortem but I have seen too many left with no answers even though all tests were done! My gp days they can not rule the chances if specialists don't know the cause...so its like a vicious roller coaster yet again where no .one really has an answer..... N with no reason for the cause or any answers to our questions its like the lottery either we gamble n win or simply loose.?! I find I'm confused n ask too much in hope of some light for everyone who had to face loss or suffering due to this illness... Take care though n keep in touch.

Week 28 ultrasound ok. We will continue with this schedule for ultrasound every 4 weeks. Glucose challenge test also planned in a couple of weeks.
I was trying to read of any problems occuring after 28 weeks, but its making my head spin. So I've stopped.
I have all the 'friendly' symptoms of the third trimester -heartburn, insomnia, back pain. Nausea also seems to be back.
And again, thanks for all your support. It means a lot to us.
