Please can you help me with information about following pregnancy
Hi everyone,
My name is Andrea and I live in the Netherlands. I am almost 32 years old.
We have lost a baby to Hydrops when I was approx. 17 weeks pregnant. We had an ultrasound at 10,5 weeks, where everything was fine and 1 week later we had an ultrasound and it showed severe hydrops around the skull. After that we have had several ultrasounds but the hydrops got worse and also started to show at the back and finally around the heart. The doctors told us we had a 0% chance for survival. We decided to terminate the pregnancy. So I went into labour when I was approx. 17 weeks pregnant. We have had chromosome testing, blood testing for infections and they have done an autopsy on our daughter but they have found absolutely nothing. As the doctor thought to see on the ultrasound that there was something wrong with the heart, they checked double at the autopsy but they say there was nothing wrong with the heart. When she was born we could see bumps of fluid at her back and neck.
It has been 1 year ago now. And I am pregnant again, for the 2nd time. I am 11 weeks and 4 days pregnant today. We already had 3 ultrasounds: 5 weeks, 7 weeks and 10 weeks. All looked fine. But given my last pregnancy I am of course very scared. My following ultrasound will be next monday.
I do not read about early cases of hydrops repeating in following pregnancies so I was wondering if anybody has information? Also, should I be worried the entire pregnancy for getting hydrops again?
please can you help me?
thank you.
Kind regards,
andrea

Hi Andrea,
Sorry to hear of your loss! So far if your new baby is fine then I hope you try not to worry and read this post by babyc - Getting pregnant following losing baby to hydrops fetalis.
To be honest I still did worry every day when my daughter pre-natal - also becase the cause of my sons hydrops was not conclusive.

Hi Andrea,
My hydrops baby is now 3yrs old and 5 months ago I had another baby boy who is perfectly healthy. I was very nervous about the first scans, particularly at 20 weeks where it all went wrong the first time. But everything looked fine this time, and he is doing great.
Try not to worry (easier said than done), I'm sure things will be ok.

Hi everyone,
We had the combinationtest when I was 13 weeks pregnant, everything is fine so far. We are very happy though still carefull.
Last pregnancy when we lost our beautifull daughter it was all wrong when having the combination test at around 12 weeks.
I am today 14 weeks pregnant and will be having an ultrasound again on my birthday (24th March). Hopefully everything is still fine...
Will keep posting here, thanks everyone for your support..!

HI Everyone,
Just an update: Currently 26 weeks pregnant and last week had an ultrasound again. Everything still looks fine. Still worrying ofcourse as they never found what caused the hydrops with our daughter so we also do not know the chance of it happening again.
By the way, is there a difference between early hydrops and late in pregnancy? They saw our daughter had hydrops when I was approx. 11 to 12 weeks pregnant. And we lost her (gave birth) when I was 17 weeks pregnant.

hi andrea , just to let you know my first baby was born with hydrops she was very ill but survived and is now 21 years old , im sorry to hear you lost your baby , i have had two other children bot fine with no signs of hydrops . I belive my daughters hydrops was caused by my blood group , i am rhesus negative, i was given a drug called anti- d, after first child was delivered which they told me would prevent any more pregnancies been affected.
anyone on here who is going through hydrops or had a diagnonsis and needs to talk please contact me .My daughter was born when this was virtually un heard of , i was told she would defenitlely die and she is now 21 . there is hope .. linda xx

I am so happy that everything is still looking good. My husband and I lost our son nearly 11 months ago and are trying for another baby so hearing that things are going well with your subsequent pregnancy gives me a little hope. I can only imagine how scared you are but I will be praying for you and your baby.

Hi Brendensmommy,
I am very sorry for the loss of your son. I lost my little girl 1,5 years ago but still seems like yesterday...
One of the reasons that I am writing here is to show to other people that it (hopefully) can go well in a following pregnancy. I have read stories from other people and it is giving me hope so I hope I can do the same for people who are reading this now and in the future.
Like mentioned before, 32 weeks pregnant now and still going well. I just wish time would be flying by but it isn't.
Goodluck to you and lots of love

Hello, I am currently 8 weeks pregnant after losing our baby girl Hope on 12/25/10 at 25 weeks due to hydrops. I was very ill with mirror syndrome.
I was wondering if anyone that experienced a successful pregnancy after a loss had mirror syndrome?

Hi Everyone,
Our beautifull and healthy daughter was born on the 16th of September 2011. Her name is Lisa. Full name: Lisa Julia (Julia is the name of our daughter which we have lost to hydrops).
I just wanted to let you know that there is hope.
Lisa is now almost 4 months old and she is a really happy little girl, growing very well! We enjoy her every day and I am just so happy to see her smiling face every day!
Good luck to everyone...
Big hug,
Andrea

Congratulations!!! It is wonderful to hear about a successful pregnancy after a loss to hydrops. We are still trying and I hope one day to be able to hold a happy, healthy baby in my arms again just as you have been able to.

Hi Brendensmommy,
Thank you for your reply!
That is also why I felt it was important to tell my story. When we lost our daughter I searched everywhere for answers and also searched for success stories to keep the faith for still be able to having a healthy baby. At the time when we lost our daughter there was another couple who after their loss got a healthy baby as well and now we have our own happy ending. So for you I hope you will have a happy ending as well. But as my doctor in the hospital said: the chance of having another baby with hydrops or something else is very small, you have a far more bigger chance of having a healthy baby. I wish you all the goodluck in the world and hope you can say the same as us in time. But I am sure you will!
A big hug to you !! As I know it is so hard to loose your child, but she is always in my heart and I am sure you feel the same about your child.

Hi Baby 3
I have read your story, I am so sorry about your losses. No one should go through this. With my first pregnancy they also found around 12 weeks the Hydrops and it kept getting worse from then. When I was around 17 weeks the hydrops got so worse that the doctor said we had a 0% chance for survival so I was induced. With the second pregnancy I was scared throughout the whole pregnancy as well, nobody really understands that except if you have experienced it yourself.
I feel so bad for you have to experience this twice.. It must be so hard for you right now. But I have read several stories from people who also have experienced this several times but still got a healthy baby, I will hope this time it will go right for you, but fortunately you are still going well! I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
The pain of loosing a baby will always stay with you,as you know, when I look at my little girl I often think about our first little girl, imagining that she could have been like this as well.... It always stays with you. With time it will get better but it never goes away. Once your baby is born, you will feel much better. I was scared up to when I delivered her, always scared that it went wrong. I so completely understand you, and I so feel for you..
Do you have check ups every several weeks? I had check ups every 3 weeks in the beginning and after that every 2 weeks. Allthough I was scared throughout the pregnancy, at the end it got a bit better because they checked very well (I got every 3 weeks a "20 weeks ultrasound" as we call it here in Holland)and the doctor was a very experienced doctor.
Well that is it for now, feel free to contact me anytime, I find it is always good if you speak to someone who has experienced the same and understands where you are coming from.
A big hug to you!
